High Altitude Blue Grama Grass Project

Residential blue grama installation by Joan Sapp Landscaping

Before

This site was completely scraped of existing patches of turfgrass and a swale was added for runoff control.

 After

In their vision for a low-maintenance landscape focused on native plants, the residents opted for a 100% blue grama grass lawn.

Project Scope

The goals of the project included scraping the existing turfgrass in preparation for installation of a primarily native plant landscape. The residents’ aim was to create a low-maintenance landscape with an added swale for runoff control. Once established, no water was needed to supplement the beauty of this site.

Lessons Learned

Blue grama performed very well planted by itself. This is the only 100% blue grama project completed by the landscape architect. It was beautiful, though the grass is held a gold rather than green color during the winter.
